• UL-FGA is being used to construct a section of the embankment in the median of I-95 over an area of Potomac Formation clays and other soils. Settlements have to be minimized in this section to limit the impact of the fill on the piles supporting the existing Cowan Blvd. bridge structure.
• The design-build contractor installed an average of 650 cubic yards of foamed glass aggregate per day.
• $132 million design-build Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project is part of the Atlantic Gateway improvements to provide additional capacity, reduce congestion, and improve accessibility and mobility within the I-95 Corridor between Washington, DC, and Fredericksburg, VA.
• Specifically, four miles of two additional lanes parallel to I-95 southbound will be added from Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County to Exit 130 (Route 3) in the City of Fredericksburg and includes a new bridge across the Rappahannock River.
